Bay of Fundy

It is hard to explain the feeling you get while walking on the ocean floor….when there is no water there! Hopewell Rocks in the Bay of Fundy is an experience that makes you realize that you are a speck in this universe….the power and majesty of nature is the star of the show. The tides here can change up to 52 feet over a 12 hour period….52 feet! This is considered the highest tidal range in the world.

We hiked around towering “flower pots” of sandstone capped with a tree or two while the bottom is covered with seaweed. When we were there at 6:30am, we basically had the place to ourselves. After walking on the ocean floor for an hour or so, we left to do some other exploring… planning on returning for the high tide. The difference is mind-boggling. The naturalist there said the tide was 44 feet that day and was 28 feet where we had been walking that morning…..that is a 3 story building!

The following 2 photos are the before and after of the same rocks. The arch of “Lover’s Arch” (in the center of the picture) is about 30 feet high and you can see in the second picture the arch is mostly filled.

The stairs we walked down earlier to the beach now look like something from the Titanic!

And, no, we did not find the camera cable. We just realized that we are idiots…all we had to do was plug the SD card directly into the computer….DUH!

When you get to Arcady we should check my old 35mm slides and see if I got the same pictures – except i do not recall the stairs back then
