We got to Kyle and Janice’s house Tuesday afternoon and had a wonderful family dinner and the kids helped us unload the trailer. Then it hit me…..the enormity of what we had done. We had just sold our house of 26 years, and moved halfway across the country AND asked our son and his new wife to let us move in with them for a couple of months. I stared at the ceiling in bed for a while wondering what the hell we had done.
Then the next morning, Kyle emptied one of his dressers so we could use it; Janice could not have been more helpful rearranging the room for us. Nicholas expressed how happy he was we were there and helped unload the rest of the stuff into the storage unit. Now we knew what the hell we had done and why!
We are pretty flexible people but this is a huge life change…even for us. And it has gone so smoothly, it is scary. There has been only minor altitude adjustments….I am just starting to feel like someone is NOT sitting on my shoulders all day. And we thought we drank a lot of water before….we go nowhere without a drink of water by our side.
Our goal had been to get here for our Nicholas’ 30th birthday. Growing up, he asked for crabs every year for his birthday dinner. Getting crabs in Colorado took some determination but we did it and he loved it! Alana showed off her talents with a Dirty 30 watermelon filled with a specially created cocktail complete with a tap.

So here we are…living in the mountains of Colorado. We have a post office box and everything! We have been here for 10 days and are having such a fabulous time reconnecting with our kids and exploring the area…this time with a different eye. Before it was always just admiring the scenery but now it is paying attention to directions, noting places for future exploration or even for future living! The whole retirement thing is also sinking in; each day is a blank slate just waiting to be drawn upon.
Each day is a new adventure…and this time we get to share them with our kids! Love it!

We spent 2 fabulous days at Carter Lake with the kids and their friends. At the end of a perfect day spent on the lake, eating brats cooked over an open fire, reflecting on what a great day it had been….Buzz says “look behind you” and there was a six point buck grazing not 20 feet from us. It was like something from The Truman Show….cue the deer. It was a perfect moment.
As you can see, Buzz is really stressed over this whole moving thing……

Probably my favorite post so far! Love that you guys are now on your way to enjoying the rest of your life! You have an awesome family out there. And out here too :-)
