Peggy’s Cove

A drive through Halifax and southward to Peggy’s Cove was longer than anticipated. A couple of times we thought of bagging it but drove onward….so glad we did! What a cool place! The second you pass by the sign that tells you it is a preservation district, the landscape changes from one of grassy rolling hills, accented with towering pines, to rocky crags and huge boulders which looked like they were just dropped from the sky. Actually, they were dropped…. by a glacier. The landscape is stunning and such a change from a few short miles distant.

The fishing village is charming though we were too early in the season for any of the cute shops to be open. But the scenery was calming and the fog was rolling in.

Then we drove up the hill and around the turn and WOW! A lunar landscape with waves crashing over the rocks….gorgeous! The view up the hill from the village where the lighthouse stands is a field of massive boulders, made smooth by the millennia of water and ice. And we would have missed it but I had to go to the bathroom and I was told the restroom was in the gift shop at the top of the hill!! For once, I am thankful I have a small bladder!

A poetic description of a place that reminds me a little of the Maine coast. The fog offers such a great atmosphere along with the weathered wood buildings vaguely painted. Doesn’t look like I would feel too hot there.
