First off, we can not thank all of you enough for your support and encouragement. Your kind words made us smile and helped pull us through some times when things were not going as planned. One thing about travelling in South East Asia is you must be very flexible. Do not expect things to happen on time or as you want them to. You have to go with the flow. It is a hard thing to do at times, but we reminded each other when one of us started to get upset about something.
We have been home for two weeks. It took about one full week to get back on this time zone and have uninterrupted sleep. We have started looking for houses in Colorado. Life feels a little off balance right now; we are dealing with a lot of changes and it is a little unsettling. But we are also so happy to be with our family and hanging out together. We are where we belong!
We have also decided that 3 months was a little too long. We both had days at about the 2 month mark where we just wanted to go home. But when it came time to go, we left with mixed emotions….very excited to get home to our kids but sad that our trip was over. But looking back, we think we will probably limit our trips to 2 months….but who knows?????
One piece of business yet to handle…so how much did this whole trip cost. We stayed in 5 star hotels and we also stayed in hovels; we ate like kings and also dined on the street (and ate like kings on the street!). We bought lots of souvenirs and didn’t really deny ourselves any activity we really wanted to do. We still came in about where we expected to overall with our budget. Travel in SE Asia (at least in the countries we visited) is very cheap overall. Cambodia surprised us in how expensive it was, comparatively. Within each country it is possible to get by on very little money or blow the wad on everything/
We would rate the countries from cheapest to most expensive:
- India
- Vietnam
- Thailand
- Cambodia
However, from a memorable and fun perspective we would rate them
- Vietnam
- India
- Thailand
- Cambodia
There will be no Christmas letter this year; we simply don’t have to time to get one done so please accept this “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year” from the bottom of our hearts.
Until our next big adventure…….
Thanks so much for sharing your adventures. I’m not much of a traveler though I do enjoy hearing about the trips of others. We miss you and wish you a wonderful life in CO, Merry Christmas.

Based on your travel blog and pictures, I would have voted Vietnam for #1 too. Enjoy the holidays with your “kids” and good luck house-hunting. Keep us posted…miss you!

You two have had an amazing adventure and I especially loved the pics of Siem Reap; it was my favourite tourist place to visit. I can understand the adjustment to home-and the snow- but being with family is the best. We will enjoy our Christmas with our kids and then we get to escape to Florida. Hope we can keep in touch and maybe some day we will reconnect through a tour or just because we can`t stay away from Asia. Merry Christmas! Jerry and Sue, Ottawa, Ontario

As you can see, I am a little behind in my emails. Anyway, so glad to have you back on this side of the world and I want to thank you for sharing your adventure through this blog. It was a surreal experience tallking to you on the phone when you were in Vietnam in your evening and my morning and I assume on a different day. Love you, guys and can’t wait for the next opportunity to see you in person.
