Getting off the ship, my first view of Iceland, there were 25 waterfalls in my view!!! 25!!!! 

E-bikes today!!! The bikes they had were pretty heavy (65 pounds) so I had trouble getting on and off because I was afraid I was going to drop the bike. If someone held the bike for me, I was good. Man I fell in love with e-bikes and Iceland today. After a quick lesson, we headed out to see a couple of waterfalls and the beautiful landscape. This area is susceptible to avalanches and they have constructed (and are still working on) avalanche catching dams and braking mounds. The town of 700 has suffered several devastating avalanches in 1885 and 1996.

We made a couple of stops to see…..waterfalls! At the one, the guide took his canister over to the falls and filled it up and that is what we drank! 

Seydisfjordur was a base for Allied forces during the Second World War. The sole attack recorded off Iceland occurred on the British oil tanker, the El Grillo, which was anchored in the fjord. After being heavily bombarded by German fighters stationed in Norway, the El Grillo’s captain decided to scuttle the ship, and the boat was sunk. They have covered the boat with a special type of material that absorbs the oil that periodically leaks out of it. It now rests at the bottom of the fjord, and its wreckage has become a popular site amongst scuba divers.

A quick stop for lunch on the ship and then we explored the little town and shopped a bit….of course!!
