The changing of the guard at the Amalienborg Castle happens at Noon so we Ubered over there to catch it. Since the Monarchy was not in residence, it did not include the Royal Band. To be honest, the whole thing was pretty boring, long times when they just stood there. 

We got our Smorrebrods for lunch today. They come on rye bread which none of us were fans of but this rye bread was very mild. I finally got to try their herring. (There are not alot of native dishes in either Copenhagen or Amsterdam. Actually, one Uber drive in Amsterdam when we asked where we could get some native dishes, he responded with “You won’t like it!” He said that Netherlanders don’t even eat it! We did have a beef stew served with red cabbage and boiled potatoes in Amsterdam and it was ok) This herring was curried but tasted very much like the herring with sour cream from a jar but with a little curry tasets. My salmon sandwich the day before beat this hands down!

After lunch we headed to Nyhavn (pronounced NewHow: this Danish, and also the Dutch in Amsterdam are confounding!) a 17th century waterfront district  known for its brightly colored homes. Nyhavn was a little disappointing because you couldn’t really see the buildings due to all the sidewalk cafes and their umbrellas! Did a little shopping then chilled out on a park bench for a bit. Jackie headed across the courtyard to get some waters and came back with a present for me: a canvas bag I had been looking for and had not found at this point! Very sweet.

An hour sitting by the hotel pool and dinner in the hotel restaurant finished off the day…at least for Paul and I. Jackie stayed up and watched the USA World Cup game that was over about 4:00am!!!
